I read the “A Great Boss is Confident, But Not Really Sure” — and I think this could apply to people at all levels. We are all faced with decisions to make – even if we don’t make the final decisions, we often recommend what options are available, what’s the best course in our opinion, or how to handle a given situation.

If we wait for all situations to be perfectly clear, we’ll miss opportunities. This ties into the ‘Sales Stuck in Neutral?’ article as well – his problem was that he wasn’t willing to let others make decisions. There comes a point where a single person can not keep up with the entire business – and has to delegate to others.

Personally, most of the decisions I regret most are those where I didn’t move fast enough, rather than the mistakes I made by moving too fast.

    Scott,

You must be confident that what you know can help others but at the same time, be humble enough to admit you don’t know everything. I agree completely that it applies to all roles. Many times, I see that people tie their own personal esteem in the assessment making process. It consistently never leads to outcomes others find consequential.

And you’re right! We need help to make decisions! We mustn’t think that we lessen the value of the decision, or the outcome, when we involve other people. It is important to remember that it is important to involve only those we trust with the design of the outcome. Delegating to weak or incompetent people will only lead to weak or incompetent outcomes.

Thank you very much for your comments. I can tell you are “moving” and you seem to be in growth mode. Its neat to see.
